5 STAR CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR

9TH -16TH MAY 2009

Lahinch Golf Course occupies a very special place in Irish golf: its location, its history, and its characterful layout all contribute to a really special experience for any golfing enthusiast. Lahinch Golf Links has the distinction of being a MacKenzie course and a mecca for keen golfers.

The first layout of Lahinch Golf Links in 1892, was redesigned by Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews in 1894. A remaining example of his work is the present 5th hole "The Dell".

Upon playing Ballybunion Old Course, for the 1st time the legendary Tom Watson said of it"A man might think the game of golf originated here. There appears to be no man made influence.."

With beautiful contoured fairways that tumble down through a blanket of grassy dunes, it's no wonder these challenging holes have been consistently rated among the top ten courses in the world by professional golfers and journalists.

This is a course I want to be identified with, one I will be able to say with pride -- ' I did that one.' I am the luckiest designer in the world . . . because of the uniqueness of the site." Greg Norman

Two-time British Open champion Greg Norman is the course architect, selected for both his design skill and his "least disturbance" philosophy of routing courses to fit existing terrains. • Norman's layout follows a course designed by nature - 14 of Doonbeg's greens and 12 of its fairways were simply mowed. The fairways and greens consist of native grasses, including fine fescues, bentgrass, and ryegrass.

Opened in October 1984 Tralee Golf Course was the first European golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. When he first saw the area upon which his company was to build Tralee golf links, he was ecstatic about the possibilities.

"I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course" he said. "I designed the first nine but surely God designed the back nine", Palmer explained. "I am happy that we have one of the worlds' great golf links here."

Golf at Waterville is a mystical experience – the beauty of classic links land, surrounded by the sea, yet forever challenged and shaped by the elements. Over 100 years old, Waterville is rated among the top 5 courses in Ireland and the top 20 links courses in the world.

Links golf combines sand dunes gorse and native grasses, firm fairways, sod faced bunkers and subtle putting surfaces all intertwined by the ever changing weather.

Golf at Dromoland is a unique experience, the golf course is built around Dromoland Castle with spectacular views
