The Cliffs of Moher on the west
coast of Ireland are one of the most outstanding coastal features of Ireland.
The cliffs rise from Doolin and ascend to over 700 feet (213 metres) just three
miles south of the village of Doolin. Being almost vertical, their
sheer drop into the heaving Atlantic ocean is a haven for sea birds. One can see
the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins and the Maum Turk Mountains
to the north in Connemara and Loop Head to the South, the top is never tiresome.

King John's Castle is a castle
located on King's Island in Limerick, Ireland, next to the River Shannon. The
walls, towers and fortifications remain today, and are a visitor attraction. The
remains of a Viking settlement were uncovered during the construction of a visitor
centre at the site. The Viking sea-king, Thormodr Helgason, built
the first permanent Viking stronghold on Inis Sibhtonn (King's Island) in 922.
He used the base to raid the length of the River Shannon from Lough Derg to Lough
Ree, pillaging ecclesiastical settlements. In 937 the Limerick Vikings clashed
with those of Dublin on Lough Ree and were defeated. In 943 they were defeated
again when the chief of the local Dalcassian clan joined with Ceallachan, king
of Munster and the Limerick Vikings were forced to pay tribute to the clans. The
power of the Vikings never recovered, and they reduced to the level of a minor
clan, however often playing pivotal parts in the endless power struggles of the
next few centuries. | | | |

"Kinsale - take one spectacular location, season liberally
with Norman, Spanish and English influence, add one major battle and let it simmer
for 400 years. The result - Ireland’s fine food capital." Peter Barry The
medieval town of Kinsale is not just about food. it’s also about traditional bars,
beautiful buildings, narrow streets, shops and galleries and lots of activities
on land and sea. You'll find Kinsale's not just a place - it's more a state of
mind! | | BACK
